After graduating in 2018, I found it really hard to navigate my career. I completed a degree in engineering but knew I wanted to work in a medical space and I was unsure of how to make that pivot between what I studied and what I wanted to do. A few of my friends recommended 2020 change to me and I can honestly say applying was the best decision I could’ve made at that point. I completed the 2020 programme in the summer of 2019 feeling invigorated, purposeful and with clarity I had never experienced before. I found a job I was content with, whilst trying to put together my plan to build the career I wanted and kept in contact with the amazing Duro, who along with team ensured we always felt supported even after the programme came to an end. The team would send out weekly opportunities of roles up for offer, but it wasn’t until I was furloughed and later made redundant that I saw how much of a God send this truly was. I was emailed an exclusive opportunity for 2020 alumni to join a medical tech startup as an executive assistant. MEDICAL TECH!!! The perfect blend between what I had studied and where I wanted to be. I immediately emailed Duro, who helped me get together my CV and cover letter and sent off my application. I was extremely anxious as I not only needed a job but wanted a job at that company and was happy to have my foot in the door in any way. Waiting finally came to an end when I was offered an interview and to my surprise, I was offered the role of technical manager!!! I was given the opportunity to learn, further develop my skills and work on amazing innovations, making a difference in people’s health. My dream job! None of this would have been possible without 2020 change, and I am forever grateful.
